According to mandi officials, the total arrival was limited to around 25–30 truckloads, which is significantly lower than usual. This reduced supply created a positive price movement, especially for good-quality produce. Traders reported that premium-grade potatoes were sold quickly, indicating strong buyer interest in quality stock.
Price trends across varieties showed a clear difference based on quality:
White potatoes were traded between ₹600 to ₹700 per quintal
Gunda potatoes were priced lower at ₹350 to ₹450 per quintal
Holland variety commanded the highest rates, ranging from ₹700 to ₹800 per quintal
Market experts advised that, at present, traders and farmers should focus on selling “dump potatoes” (open-stored stock) instead of cold storage produce. It is suggested to wait for 10–15 days before releasing cold storage stock, as better price opportunities may emerge.
Farmers were also advised to improve their grading and cleaning practices, as stained or poor-quality potatoes fetch lower prices in the market. Additionally, to reduce risk and maximize returns, they should consider selling produce in phases rather than in bulk at once.
