₹18,640 Crore PM-Kisan Instalment Released for Farmers
Over 9 Crore Farmers Receive ₹2,000 Direct Support.
The Government of India is releasing the latest instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on 13 March, transferring ₹2,000 directly into the bank accounts of eligible farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Under this instalment, more than 9 crore farmer families across the country will receive financial support, with the government releasing around ₹18,640 crore in total. The instalment was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public event in Assam, continuing the government’s effort to strengthen farmers’ financial security.
The PM-Kisan scheme has become one of India’s largest income-support programmes for farmers.
About the PM-Kisan Scheme
Launched in February 2019, the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible farmers. The amount is paid in three instalments of ₹2,000 each, directly transferred to farmers’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
The scheme aims to help farmers manage basic agricultural expenses such as seeds, fertilisers, labour, irrigation and crop inputs, thereby improving farm productivity and supporting rural incomes.
Since its launch, the government has transferred over ₹3 lakh crore to farmers nationwide through multiple instalments under the programme.
Verification and Eligibility
Ahead of the latest instalment, the government conducted beneficiary verification and database clean-up to remove ineligible entries and ensure genuine farmers receive the benefits.
Farmers are advised to complete the following requirements to avoid payment delays:
1. e-KYC verification
2. Aadhaar linking with bank accounts
3. Updated land records
Beneficiaries can check their payment status on the official PM-Kisan portal using their Aadhaar number, bank account number or registered mobile number.
Boost to Rural Economy
The transfer of over ₹18,000 crore directly to farmers’ bank accounts is expected to improve liquidity in rural areas and support upcoming agricultural activities. Many farmers use these funds to purchase inputs for the next crop cycle, helping sustain agricultural productivity.
