LUCKNOW: The New Year has brought a significant breakthrough for the potato and cold storage industry in Uttar Pradesh. Following a high-level meeting between the UP Cold Storage Association and the Honorable Horticulture Minister, Shri Dinesh Pratap Singh, several key decisions have been reached to streamline industry operations and address long-standing grievances.

Amendment of the Cold Storage Act: In a major victory for the association, the government has constituted an Advisory Committee to overhaul the existing Act. Seven representatives from the Association have been nominated to this committee. The Minister has issued strict instructions to outline the new regulations before the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
Resolution of Surplus Potato Stocks: Addressing the critical issue of leftover potato stocks, the Association President, Shri Arvind Agarwal, highlighted the legal risks of owners disposing of produce independently. To prevent future disputes with farmers, the Minister has assured that the disposal of remaining stocks will be facilitated through the District Magistrates (DM).
Renovation Subsidies: The Minister provided assurances regarding subsidies for the renovation of old cold storage units, ensuring modern infrastructure for the upcoming crop cycle.
