UP Government Orders Immediate Clearance of Remaining Potatoes Stored in Private Cold Storages
The Government of Uttar Pradesh has announced that the evacuation of potatoes stored in private cold storages across the state is nearly complete. However, it has been observed that in a few districts, some quantity of potatoes still remains stored.
To ensure smooth crop movement and safeguard farmers’ interests, the state government has instructed all District Magistrates, District Horticulture Officers, and licensed Cold Storage Operators to immediately ensure the clearance of remaining stock.
Key compliance points:
If tenants/farmers fail to remove their potatoes after receiving a formal notice, they must do so within a maximum period of seven days.
If evacuation is still not done within that timeframe, the cold storage license holder may remove the stock at the risk and cost of the tenant/farmer.
All expenses incurred for such removal shall be recoverable from the tenant/farmer.
Failure to comply may lead to license cancellation, penalties, and further legal action as per the Act.
The evacuated potatoes may be disposed of as per policies defined by the District Magistrate / Licensing Authority.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has made it clear that no delay will be tolerated in clearing the remaining stock from cold storages. Strict monitoring and legal compliance procedures are now active to ensure the protection of farmer interests and the smooth completion of the evacuation process.
